Day 5 in Singapore: Church, Mount Faber and Changi Sailing Club

We started Sunday by visiting the Pasir Panjang church of Christ in Singapore this morning. I had made a contact through Bubba and Bruce Chesire named Hedy, and she and I emailed a little bit before we came to Singapore. She was a super sweet lady and extremely welcoming. The preacher of the church, Henry Wong, said they had been expecting us! We received a very warm welcome today, and actually met a number of other people from Texas that had traveled over to Singapore and were visiting. They had about 200 people at the service, which was larger than what I was expecting. They had another service that day too that about 190 people attend. They had to break up their services because their building couldn't accommodate everyone attending at once. It was really neat to worship with them, and it was just really encouraging to have so many happy faces to see you when you are so far from home.

After church, we caught a taxi over to the Alkaff Mansion Cafe where we ate a nice lunch outside. It was blazing hot today with little breeze or cloud cover, so we were thankful for the shade! It was a cute place to eat and had beautiful views of the park around us. The mansion was built in 1852 by Indonesian traders who traded coffee, sugar and spices. It was abandoned after World War 2, but then restored and turned into a hotel and restaurant for people to enjoy.

Once we finished lunch, we took a taxi over to Mount Faber to ride the cable car over to Sentosa island. It was such a fun thing to do and the views were amazing! We crossed over the port areas of Singapore, and Patrice pointed out to us various things, including where their crate came across the ocean to dock for their furniture to be delivered. The cable cars had a theme to it, which happened to be Angry Birds. We even got a free Angry Birds mask to wear while on the cable car! Whoo hoo! We got to take a lot of great pictures, and also see a great view of the city and bays.

After we rode the cable car, we sat in the restaurant and had some cold drinks to cool off and chatted a bit. We then took the MRT to get a taxi. The MRT took about 30 minutes to get to the stop that we needed, but it was neat that we had the opportunity to see some acts of kindness on the MRT today and people giving up seats for others today! Haha :0) We finally got to the shopping area at the last MRT stop and ended up having to wait for a taxi for almost 30 minutes. It was to say the least frustrating! From there, we took the taxi to Changi Sailing Club to meet Eilliott and Ernie. They had gone sailing today, and once we got there they had won multiple match races and had had a much longer day than they anticipated. We were all hot, sweaty and beat from the day. This climate just takes a lot out of you!
Waiting for the silly taxi!

Once Elliott and Ernie finished up with their boat, we all met to talk about our days and have a nice "family dinner" at the sailing club restaurant. The boys were very happy about their successful races and had a great time out on the water.

We were excited to catch Elliott smiling for a picture!!!
So another successful day of touring the city of Singapore. Hope you enjoyed the update!

    1. Yeah I was surprised about that too! Singapore is pretty open with religious freedoms there, I've seen a number of different denominations of churches over here. The Angry Birds thing was so silly, I don't know what was up with that, but the cable car ride was fun. :0)
