Day 6 in Singapore: Marina Bay, Art Science Museum, Singapore Flyer and Stamford Raffles Hotel

Today started off with biscuits for breakfast and then a ONE HOUR MRT ride to Marina Bay! There were a lot of stops from our stop to Marina Bay, so it took a while to get down there. Marina Bay is located by the water and has a lot of neat buildings, hotels and entertainment options. We got off the MRT and walked through one of the MANY malls to get to the Art Science Museum. Singapore has so many malls it is insane! They are all beautifully designed for the most part and have a lot of interesting architecture.

So one of the neat things to see in Marina Bay is the Marina Bay Sans Hotel with a Sky Park in the shape of a ship. It was a really unique building structure, and really left us all wondering who's bright idea this was to put a ship on top of three buildings like this haha. We are planning on going up tomorrow night to the observation area to see Singapore city at night.

After walking through the mall, we went to the Art Science Museum. Again, very unique architecture. The museum building is in the shape of a lotus! It was actually a very pretty building! This month, the feature for the museum was a Harry Potter exhibit. It was really funny that we came 12,000 miles from home to a foreign country and end up looking at a Harry Potter movie exhibit while we are here! :0) It was really cool though, they had movie costumes and props that were actually used in the Harry Potter movies. We weren't allowed to take pictures of the exhibits (otherwise we would be "removed") so all I have is a picture of one of the cars outside the exhibits and the bill board advertisement in the museum.

After the museum, we went back into the mall area and ate lunch at a Coffee Bean restaurant. It was a really nice little bistro setup by one of the mall fountains. This mall has a little river that flows around the mall, and apparently you can actually take a small boat tour around too. You can see pictures below of people doing that! I told Patrice that's what I wanted to do next but she was like uhhh I don't think so haha. One thing we liked about the Coffee Bean today was that it had a cool little control at the table for us to page for service or our bill. Singapore is very relaxed in the dining atmosphere, and people sit for a long time and talk after they eat, so servers don't come by nearly as often as they do in the United States. It was nice to be able to page them today when you needed a refill or your check!

So one of the neat features about this fountain is that it hangs from the ceiling. While we were eating, it filled up with water, and then towards the end of our meal it started to empty. It was hilarious because the people taking the boat tour were pretty terrified when the water started to pour! Patrice's account of the fountain is that it is "like a huge magical toilet!"which of course had us laughing pretty hard.

After lunch, we took a taxi over to the Singapore Flyer, which is basically like a enormous enclosed ferris wheel. This is actually the largest attraction like this in the world, bigger than the London Eye even, which I rode during one of the A&M band's Europe tours! When we were in the cab, our driver told us when we pulled up that "If you have driver's license, you can drive!" the ferraris parked here. Elliott was pretty excited about this, but Patrice said no to that for today hehe. We bought our tickets and walked through a little museum about the Flyer, and then got into one of the capsule's for our thirty minute sky tour. The views were absolutely amazing of the Bay and of the city and we had a really good time getting a different view from the city.

So this is kind of random... on our way to the Flyer Museum and to get on the Flyer, we pass this shop called Reflexology and Fish Spa. Apparently you put your feet in these tanks with little fish in them, and the fish clean your feet and bite off dead skin and whatever else you may have on your toes. Eww! Just thought it was interesting and that I would share haha!

After riding the Flyer, we took a cab over to the Raffles hotel. It was named after Stamford Raffles, would founded the British trading post back in the 1800s. The hotel opened in 1887, and is extremely luxurious  with wonderful restaurants. It was also one of the first buildings to have electricity in Singapore. Obviously it has been remodeled and expanded since it's opening, but it is still one of the most fabulous paces to stay in Singapore. We couldn't go inside, but we were able to walk around and visit the museum. about Raffles hotel.

We then took the MRT to meet Ernie for dinner. We were laughing at Patrice tonight because she was clearly not following the MRT "Make it right" rules they try to promote with pictures and fliers everywhere. You're supposed to stand on the sides and let people off before you get on. ;0)

So we thought tonight it would be entertaining to eat at Singaporian Chilis! Very authentic Singaporian food, right???

After dinner, we walked down to the Tanglin Market Place so they could show us some of the crazy grocery price items here in Singapore. It was really entertaining to walk around the grocery store looking at some of the goods we buy for a couple of dollars, and seeing them priced for $15-20 dollars! Mom -  you will die when you see how much Multi-Grain Cheerios cost!!!!!!!
